In Memorial

The only guild meeting of May was canceled due to the passing away of our dear member Marie Harwood. Marie, a retired teacher, was very active in our guild and in the Red Hat society.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 To every thing there is a season.... Marie was given to us for a season. She was a delightful individual and always had a smile. She will be greatly missed.

Loads of Projects to Show You

I can't put off this blog post any longer despite distractions this writer's life. But that's another story. I have lots to show you from our last guild meeting. Here goes:
Mary with the last block for our Underground Railroad Quilt

The Sailing Boat block

Donna with our next quarterly block...Practical Orchard. This pattern can be found on the Quilter's Cache website.

Also we had a wonderful program presented by Maxine Adams, a local resident who presents oral history about the underground railroad in our area to area school children. She brought her own version of the Underground Railroad quilt along with other quilts she has made.

And Here We Are In March

Our first meeting of March has come and gone but what fun we had last night at that meeting! First we started out with our quarterly potluck dinner. Our members are great cooks and the variety of dishes couldn't be surpassed. After we filled our tummies, we proceeded with our meeting.

Mary shared instructions on the Drunkards Path block.

After some discussion members shared projects they had completed.

Fat quarters used in this quilt.

Sandy's purple quilt is gorgeous.

Donna's appliqued duck before the quilting.

Wonderful. Love the pattern.

I'm sorry about the focus on this.

Another Underground Railroad Quilt Block

Our guild project continues with the next block  of our Underground Railroad Quilt presented here.

Mary demonstrates the Birds in the Air block.

Because of transportation issues I arrived late at this week's guild meeting. Everyone who had something to share with the group had unfortunately already squirreled away their projects so I have no other pictures to share with viewers in this post. However, I along with other members played a rollicking game of bingo with lots of laughs. If you have never played this game with other quilters, let me explain how it's played. We each chose a game board made of 25 different squares of fabric. These fabrics consisted of different types of prints such as novelty, blue batik, pink flowers, yellow strips, etc. Stretching the colors and descriptions of these fabrics was the rule of the day. Different things were used by the ladies for markers: buttons, bead and wrapped candies. The guild president then proceeded to call out different fabric descriptions from a stack of game cards and the same rules for regular Bingo applied. For everyone who won the game received a fat quarter of her choosing. We had lots of belly laughs and went home refreshed, ready to go on to the next quilting project.

I FOUND THEM!

I'm sorry I've been a bit late with photos from our second meeting in January. All my fault. Part of it was that I just kept putting it off and before I knew it here it is February and tomorrow is our first meeting of the month. The other part is that I lost these photos somewhere in the dark recesses of my photo files. But, alas, they have been found and it's time to share with our readers.

Lovely fans!

A lovely house

Two lovely houses

A whole village of houses

Pine tress and birds

Shirley's lovely table runner

Wonderful colors!

Hiding behind those bear paws

Our ladies are so talented. This sweater is hand knitted.

Pillowcase #1

Pillowcase #2

In case you were wondering why I don't always name the quilters in the pictures, if I don't see a name tag I blank out. Aah, the joys of a brain with too much on it's hard drive. :))

It's a new year

Guild members held their first meeting of 2012. The other new thing about the guild besides the new year  was meeting in the daytime instead of the evening. We're trying this for the months of January and February so members won't have to drive home on dark and snowy roads. Because of the change of schedule some members weren't able to attend but we still had a good turnout.

First of all, this is the next Underground Railroad block we will be doing. (Mine's finished)

Bow Tie block

I want to apologize to Debbie. I've lost the photo I took of your block somewhere in my photos. Guess I'll have to go in and reorganize my photo files before I forget what it looked like.

Because everyone was so busy during the holidays, not too many finished new projects to share. However, there are always diehards. We hope you  enjoy what was produced.

Debbie's been busy. Love the colors.

Same pattern, different effect.

Sandy's latest quilt. Very soft colors.

Elaine has knitted a toddler's sweater.

I'm still waiting for Sue to send me a photo of an awesome quilt she made for her daughter.  She did a spectacular job and I can't wait to show you. I'm hoping there will be more quilting to show from the next meeting. Stay tuned.

A Strange Thing Going On So I'm Reposting

Blogger must be having their share of problems. The post I published on December 22 never showed up on Blogger but did on Google reader. I didn't send it to Google reader so I don't know how this happened.

Now onto the re-post!
Our guild only meets once in December because of the closeness of the holidays. At this meeting we had one of our potluck dinners. This is always fun because we get to sample other members' cooking. Desserts this time were mostly made of chocolate. Whoever said diamonds were a girl's best friend? Chocolate wins over diamonds every time!

Lots of quilting to share this time!

Our next quarterly block. It looks difficult but if you turn it on it's side, you'll see that it consists of four small shoofly blocks.

Pretty in pastels.

Fascinating!

Nice work Mary!

Donna's tee shirt quilt.

Appliqued blocks.

Cardinal table runner.

Serenity print.

Members also make items other that quilts.

Here's a unique neck pillow.

A very washable bib.

Shirley's dress for a young lady.
